  1. The MS Office 2004 for Mac 11.5.6 update will not install on my Mac. I'm running Mac OSX 10.5.8, and have the MS Office 2004 11.5.5 update already installed. I have downloaded 11.5.6 from Autoupdate and directly from the MS web site, and done so several times each, but every time the update becomes “nonresponsive” and I have to Force Quit. What's up?

  2. Same problem, except I’m running 10.6.2 Snow Leopard. It hangs while “Searching for programs to update…” Funny thing is, if I have Word open when launching the installer, it tells me to close it, but then still can’t find the program to update.

  4. I have the same problem as SteveZ. Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and Office update 11.5.5 installed. I have tried Auto and manual Updater and it still gets nonresponsive.
    Any solutions?

  6. @MHannah, I have had the same problem, and as SteveZ mentions, the program hangs when it gets to “searching for….” What is the problem here?!

  8. I did a complete cleaning and permissions repair (with Onyx), restarted the computer, went to the MS site and downloaded directly. The installer still goes nonresponsive while “searching for programs to update.” I’m at a loss about what to do next.

  10. I have the same problem as stated in the previous posts. I have updated to 11.5.5 but now the 11.5.6 update can not locate the program. I could not find any information on the MS website. Sounds like I am not alone with the problem but I have not been able to locate anyone, let alone the publisher – Microsoft (yay their attention to the customer experience continues to be underwhelming) that is offering a fix. Has anyone solved this yet?

  12. I finally got Updates 11.5.6 and 7 to load. I found another user who unmounted Time Machine and it loaded with no problems. I tried this and it loaded fine.

  14. Dismounting Time Machine TOTALLY worked! Can’t believe I didn’t Google this solution earlier. I’ve been trying to update this darn application for MONTHS. THANK YOU!

Now, how do I get Time Machine back up? I dismounted by turning off TM and dragging the drive to the trash.

  16. You can mount/unmount drives using disk utilities in the utilities folder in applications. Read about it in Help.
