Microsoft and Critical Infrastructure Risk Management

Microsoft and Critical Infrastructure Risk Management

Today’s critical infrastructures – including banking, communications, transportation, energy, healthcare, and government – rely on information and communications technology (ICT) to deliver services essential to public health and safety, commerce and security. In general, much if not most of this critical infrastructure is owned by companies in the private sector and these organizations conduct various activities to manage risk to critical infrastructure on a daily basis. • The nature of information and communications technology (ICT) is such that infrastructure components are logical or virtual in nature rather than purely physical. This necessitates a unique approach to risk management for ICT infrastructure. • Collaborative risk management activities are required between public entities and private sector owner/operators of infrastructures in order to properly identify threats, vulnerabilities, and consequences and to achieve acceptable risk levels – not only for health, safety and security, but for business risk as well.
