MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB954430)
Nov 11th, 2008 by Microsoft Download Center Feed
A Security issue has been identified in Microsoft XML Core Services (MSXML) that could allow an atacker to compromise your Windows-based system and gain control over it.
Microsoft Download Link…
I downloaded the MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB954430) on November 11, 2008. Then on November 12, I had a problem with the Sprint Smartmove software and attempted to reinstall it. But I was not able to do this. The reapplication almost finished but suddenly stopped and then uninstalled itself. It gave a message something similar to “…the process was suddenly interrupted and will be rolled back”. I have tried several times to reinstall the software but to no avail. Sprint told me that it was not in their software. I am wondering if it is related to the Microsoft Update on November 11.
Any clues?
MG
@Michael,
Well… The timing does appear to point to the Update you made on 11/11. Have you tried a system restore prior to the Update on 11/11? Might try that then perform the re-install of the sprint software.
Keep us updated.
I downloaded this update with other availible important ones after windows update automatically found them on its usual run. I downloaded all and installed all except this one. Till now i have a problem in installing it, all my questions to support sites and forums gave me nothing in response, though as i found out many users of Vista (expecially Home Premium, as myself) are expiriencing the same problem, and getting the same error code (641) after failed installation of this Security Pack. Please, if someone has any idea of solving this installation problem-let me now, appreciate in advance.
With regards. Temir.
Thanks. Actually I found another program after I left this post that had created a conflict with the Sprint Software. Thanks for the advice though.
@Michael - Excellent! Thanks for the update Michael!
I tried all known methods of solving installation of this update and all of them failed. Finally i made up my mind not to install this update at all, cause it is not the first case with some windows updates. Besides i do not much care about hackers attacks, i am sure i can handle any without using this corrupt update.
After installing this update:
Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 for x64-based Systems (KB954430)
my MS SQL SERVER 2008 service not start with TCP/IP enabled :
LOG:
Server TCP provider failed to listen on [ 'any' 1433] …
^ WINDOWS Vista 64 SP1 and MS SQL Server 2008 64 bit.
After uninstall this update all works fine!
Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB954430)
This update seems to install but is always saying it needs to be installed over and over again. I get a successful install message but it then turns around and notifies me that I have to install another update … same one. Any help out there?
I have the same problem Don.
I also have the same problem. It has “successfully” installed that update 25ish times since 11/14/08.
The update says it has installed successfully, but when windows update checks for new updates it tries to reinstall this one. Update history shows many successful updates of this same update.
Same problem as Don, Coralee, and Paul. I originally installed through BitDefender. I have now uninstalled and reinstalled through windows update. Seems to have done the trick for now.
HELP!!! I have same problem as Don, Coralee, Jeff, Paul and RAR and just like RAR, i recently installed bitdefender. RAR: what exactly do you mean by “I have now uninstalled and reinstalled through windows update.” if its not too much trouble, could you, or anyone else who has resolved this problem, please guide me through the steps you did because my computer is stuffing up and i dont know if it is because of this or not, but worth a try.
Thanks so much!!
My question is…is this necessary for the computer…im removing files because my computer is running slow
@Olympia - If you take a look at the KB - http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=954430 the security update applies to almost all Microsoft OS’s.
That being said, you should probably apply BUT, personally I would just visit Windows update and if the site tells you that you need to apply the update, go for it. If not, don’t install it from the manual installer.
@ Jennifer - Make sure your installing the right update. To safely install, I would try to uninstall it, reboot then hit windows update and let it install it for you.
@Olimpia, @Jennifer- Get rid of that update as soon as possible, you can get nothing useful out of it except extra problems. A lot of people are still having problems with this update, but the clever ones got rid of it once and for all long ago.
